The Bathhouse:

A fine place for citizens to unwind after a long day in service to the Empire, the Bathhouse protects your people’s health by providing excellent hygiene coverage. Make sure the Bathhouse is built in range of a working reservoir or your city might start feeling a bit sickly.

The Trade Port:

Trade is the glue that binds our glorious empire—and fills your city’s treasury with denarii. Open trade routes on the Empire Screen, then place their corresponding Trade Ports and Depots in spots accessible to trade ships and caravans. Set Trade Orders from the Selected Object Panel and watch the wealth flow in.

The Forum:

Symbol of Roman civilization, the Forum provides justice to your fair city. Besides elevating Desirability and Culture, use the Forum as a quick reference when checking your game ratings and current employment levels. View the flags flying in each corner of the Forum and the citizens collecting on its steps to gauge your progress or bring up the Selected Object Panel for more details.

The Drill Yard :

Introduce your city’s soldiers to the wisdom of rigorous Roman military discipline at the Drill Yard. All cohort types become tougher when trained. Raw recruits rank up to Trained and then Expert class. With enough time spent drilling, barbarian hordes will flee before the might of your city’s forces.

Temples and Shrines :

Provide Temples and Shrines for worship of the five gods; Jupiter, Mars, Mercury, Ceres and Bacchus. Their favor will bestow upon your city a higher Culture Rating, as well as a wide range of Bonuses and Benevolences, from bountiful harvests to increased tax revenue to enhanced military prowess.

Decorative Items :

Adorn your city, so that its beauty is praised from the four corners of the Empire. Place decorative objects, such as Bushes, Trees, Gardens, Plazas and Statues, to increase Desirability. High Desirability attracts Patricians and allows their villas to evolve, which in turn, increases property taxes.

The Coliseum :

Put on a grand spectacle for your people in the Coliseum. One of the finest of all Entertainment venues, the Coliseum will lure new immigrants and satisfy even choosy Patricians with thrilling contests between man and beast. Don’t forget to place Animal Trainer and Gladiator Guilds to provide the necessary staff.

The Tax Office :

As Governor, you must set taxes to offset city expenses. Every citizen pays a sales tax on all market purchases. Patricians also pay property tax based on the value of their lavish villas. With a tight network of Tax Offices and the tax collectors they employ, your Treasury will never want for funds.

THE PEOPLE OF THE EMPIRE

Plebeians :

The humble Plebeian is the backbone of your city’s labor pool. Plebeians work in all resource related jobs, from farming to industry to manning markets and trade depots; and staff the Prefect and Engineering Offices that keep the city safe. Plebs have modest needs for food, water and household goods and do not pay taxes.

Equites :

Equites provide all city services, staffing water, healthcare, education, entertainment and religious facilities. Equites also serve as the city tax collectors and magistrates. As the middle class, Equites have moderate needs for food, goods and services, but like Plebs, are paid from the city treasury and pay no taxes.

Patricians :

The noble Patrician class occupies the city’s most elegant districts. While Patricians do not work, their high requirements for the best your city has to offer will keep your working classes employed; especially your tax collectors, who will assess a welcome property tax on their opulent estates.
